| Over the Christmas period last year (2002), the Winkleigh Singers supported North Devon Hospice, a start to the choir's initiative to support this charity during 2003. In addition to this, we have been invited to give a concert to benefit the North Devon Young Musicians Trust.
Over the years the Winkleigh Singers have supported several charity events, indluding an evening of entertainment with Richard Stilgoe in aid of North Devon Hospice and the Orpheus Trust raising more than £2500.00. Richard Stilgoe provided a hilarious entertainment, including a song devised during the interval from random words provided by the audience set to a tune of equally random notes - since when we have been known as "The Twinkly Singers, that choir from beyond the haemorrhoids"! Our part of the programme included a diverse range of music ranging from Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus and Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine to songs like I do like to be beside the seaside and Christopher Robin is saying his prayers. Richard Stilgoe joined the choir by taking the part of Narrator in Paul Patterson's Little Red Riding Hood Song Book. The choir has also supported Share Music, The Children's Society, NSPCC, and helped a number of local churches to raise funds. If you would like The Winkleigh Singers to help you with your charity event, please e-mail us. |
